Well...I achieved my first goal! Actually...I achieved more than the 3 or 4 healthy inches that I wanted by the end of 2004! As of 10/28/04...I gained a full 5 inches! My journey began December 19th, 2003. My final goal is to grow my hair past bra strap length (I really don't have a set time for this). I plan on keeping up with my regimen even after my goals are achieved. Healthy hair is the most important factor. Length is nothing without health! I would also like for my hair to be even, and about 95% free from split ends. I know it's impossible to get rid of all of them!

A little background info on my hair...
Texture: Cottony...Coily Curly...
Type?: I've given up on hair typing!
Color: dark brown w/ natural dark reddish brown highlights
Growth: tends to grow in layers; gained 5.5" since Dec 19th 03'
Starting Length: 11-12" in the back, 10" in the front and on the sides Current Length: 5.5" (BC'ed 12/1/04) I had 11 inches of relaxed ends on the floor!

These are some of the things that I have cut out, and down on...

No more blow drying...no more using towels! I am letting my hair air dry from now on. I have been doing this for several months now. Trying my best to stay away from heat. No hot combs, no curling irons!

I started using a Denman on my hair instead using wire, and hard bristle brushes. The Denman has really cut down my shedding!

No more over oiling the scalp. I think that this was a problem for me in early 2003. The excess oils were clogging up my pores! This is terrible for growing conditions! I decided to lightly oil my scalp once a week. My scalp is doing great without the excess oil, and I am having less itching.

I've been taking my vitamins EVERYDAY after I eat...instead of on an empty stomach. Vitamins work better after you eat something.

Diet and workout routine...
I am also on a diet and exercise regimen. :) For the last few months, I have been exercising like crazy. This is mainly for my over all health. I have read that exercise, and a diet consisting of green leafy veggies is great for hair growth. This is just an added bonus! I'm drinking 8 to 10 glasses of water a day, and I'm also limiting my carbs to 1 per meal. I try to have salads at least 4 times a week. I make sure to get in my veggies and a protein in my lunch, and dinner whenever I can.

Foods that I am eating more frequently...

  • Fish
  • Spinach
  • Coconut
  • lettuce
  • Cabbage
  • Celery
  • Chicken
  • Tomatoes
  • Egg Whites
  • Coconut Water
  • Sweet Potatoes
  • Organic Soy Milk
